Unemployment and Underemployment In Indonesia
Unemployment occurs can be caused because the number of jobs available is smaller than the number of job seekers. Also competencies job seekers are not accordance with the labor market. There was also a lack of effective labor market for job seekers especially in Indonesia. Indonesia has much labor available but the available jobs are few. So it makes an imbalance between workers with jobs available. In the work needed skills, education, and possess special skills in. The problem is Indonesia’s people had a low quality for education and lazy to try work hard as well. It makes our country cannot be developed, developing, and being successful.
According unemployment in 2002, 450 thousand from 9.13 million Indonesia’s unemployed people has already got a high education. If we viewed from the age, the most unemployed (5.78 million) is a young age (15-24 years). Moreover there are as many as 2.7 million unemployed feel not possible to get a job (hopeless). Situation like this would be very dangerous and threaten national stability. Another issue is the number of underemployed who work less than the normal working hours of 35 hours per week, in 2002 totaled 28.87 million people. Most of them are working at a lower position that the level of education, low wages, resulting in low productivity. Thus the problem of unemployment and underemployment amounted to 38 million that should be in the finish.
